La Locura del estallido ska volvió a madness en unos de los mas exitosas bandas, comercialmente hablando, en inglaterra hasta en principios de años ochenta. Extremamente exitoso en el REINO UNIDO---con 21 a 20 sencillos Top en sus 8 años de historia madness produjo sólo un exito en america en 1983 ("Our House"). Su marca registrada " nutty sound" el ska mixto (una versión más rápida de reggae) con piano de salon y vientos. El centro de la banda, Mike Barson, Chris Foreman y Lee Thompson, comenzaron a tocar en Morris y Minors en 1976. En 1978 ellos cambiaron su nombre a the Invaders crecio la banda,ahora con Graham "Suggs" McPherson, Mark Bedford, Chas Smash y Dan Woodgate en el grupo. Después de ese año ellos cambiaron su nombre a Madness y lanzaron su primero sencillo. Along with the Specials, Madness were one of the leading bands of the ska revival of the late '70s and early '80s. As their career progressed, Madness branched away from their trademark "nutty sound" and incorporated large elements of Motown, soul, and British pop. Although the band managed one crossover American hit in 1983, the band remained a British phenomenon, influencing several successive generations of musicians and becoming one of the most beloved groups the country produced during the '80s. The origins of Madness lie in a ska group known as the Invaders, which was formed by Mike Barson, Chris Foreman, and Lee Thompson in 1976.
